22-year-old man dies after falling ill at Birmingham nightclub Forum

A 22-year-old man died after falling ill at Birmingham nightclub Forum last weekend.

The man was attending the DnB Allstars Halloween 360° party, taking place on Friday, October 25, when he became unwell and paramedics were called to the club. He was hospitalised and died on Saturday, October 26.

Two other men aged 20 were hospitalised on the same night and have now been discharged.

West Midlands Police has released a statement announcing an investigation has been launched into the incident, revealing that the council’s licensing sub-committee has also temporarily suspended license of the 3500-capacity venue, which opened in 2021.

Forum has released a statement on Instagram, expressing condolences to the tragic loss of life and stating that the team are cooperating with public authorities on the investigation.

It states: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and friends of a man who we were devastated to learn passed away in hospital on Saturday. He became unwell in the venue and was helped by our medical team before being taken to hospital by ambulance. We have all been deeply affected by this tragedy as, we know, have many in our wider community.

"We are working closely with the local public authorities to fully understand the circumstances and ensure that we continue to provide the safest possible environment for patrons, as we have done over the last three years. We accept the council’s decision to temporarily suspend the venue’s premises license while we complete this process and we are committed to putting in place any necessary additional measures.”

The club also said that ticket holders for events affected by the license suspension will be contacted directly with refund information.

West Midlands Police has revealed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, and that he appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court earlier this week.

Last week, warnings were issued over several batches of high-strength ecstasy pills, following reports of "multiple" hospitalisations across London.
