Mixmag teamed up with Magnum by Trojan to showcase two of London’s finest rappers, Unknown T and Jelani Blackman. The party, titled Gold Sessions, the UK launch of Magnum large size condoms, easily identifiable by its iconic gold foil.
The night was hosted and presented by Jonah Francis West, one half of Jonah & Stan – the directing and hosting comedy duo who have worked with the likes of Skepta and Kurupt FM.
Kicking things off at the first-ever Gold Sessions was Jelani Blackman. The Londoner has been a festival favourite, this year debuting at the likes of Boomtown and Glastonbury, following the success of his 2021 album ‘Unlimited’. This project, made in the depths of lockdown, saw him produce, write and rap angrily about the state of politics and racism in the UK. Catching the eyes of many, including Gorillaz, Brian Eno, Burna Boy and Wolf Alice, he's a sought-after star in the UK rap scene.
The Ladbroke Grove rapper blends hip hop and grime with his commanding vocals, which translated into a powerful performance at Gold Sessions. With the energy hitting overload, he can't help but join in, jumping into the audience to perform ‘Don’t Matter’. The crowd pay that involvement back as he says goodbye ironically with fan-favourite ‘Hello’, rapping along to his cold bars.
