These are the sickest label parties on the planet

The best of the best

We're still slap bang in the middle of our Label Of The Decade poll and the competition is hotting up. During the vote, we've been shining a light on the best imprints in the world and that ranges from the music that's put out, the label aesthetic and bosses that run them.

But there's one key element outside of the day-to-day practice that helps to get the music and artists out to the masses. The parties of course.

Label parties have been rolling for decades and they're the perfect way of showcasing the sounds of an imprint. The best place possible to do this is of course the dancefloor.

Here we look at the labels that go one step further though, the organisations that dare to dream and put on some of the most lavish, inventive and life-affirming raves, all around the world.

Ed Banger - Ed Bangerland

When Ed Banger reached its ten year anniversary, the celebrations were understandably huge. The French powerhouse has played home to some of the best electro music that's ever emerged, with acts like Justice and Mr Oizo residing as regular members of the family. So, how did they tackle the birthday party? Well they smashed it of course. Taking place at La Grand Halle De Villette, the 220,000 sq ft venue was transformed into Ed Bangerland, where there were fairground rides, a coconut shy with Justice, Breakbot and Mr Oizo's faces as targets and a giant Busy P head for people to walk through. Of course the whole family DJed and over 5000 people danced like it was 2007 again. Check the video below for a better idea of what went down and obviously to watch Brodinski on a merry-go-round.

Giegling - Planet Giegling

Having gone from strength-to-strength over the last few years, German underground outfit Giegling is one of the coolest labels on our list. Their success comes from a wealth of incredibly intricate, emotive electronica but they also operate pretty under the radar. There's very little official audio of their artist's work online, just YouTube rips and the vinyl-only releases sell for huge amounts on Discogs. The label's most recent tour, Planet Giegling, aimed to serve as an immersive overview of the imprint's music, with stops all over the world. One of the final gigs was held at London's Barbican Centre in the Observatory and revellers were treated to a silent disco, with the likes of Konstantin, DJ Dustin and Vril in control of the sweeping, ambient tones. To be surrounded by such lush greenery and the sun setting above, while being transported to the idyllic Planet Giegling was a rare, but beautiful treat.

Crosstown Rebels - Day Zero

Damian Lazurus has been at the helm of Crosstown Rebels for nearly 15 years and the house and techno imprint has been soundtracking a generation since its inception. Artists like Maceo Plex, Skream, Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler have all contributed the label's booming discography but the jewell in its crown has become its annual Day Zero party in Mexico. Boasting one of the most picturesque locations in the world, ravers travel deep into the Tulum jungle to experience a Mayan spin on the dance music festival. Most of Crosstown's roster appear alongside dazzling live performances and traditional Mayan ceremonies. Music and nature collide in beautiful harmony at Day Zero.

Hyperdub - Ø

Kode 9 has always known how to throw a banging party. Notable mentions go to Hyperdub's 10th birthday at fabric which hosted almost every member of the imprint's squad, including Cooly G, DJ Spinn, Laurel Halo, Scratcha DVA, Ikonika and Mala to name but a few. Also a Wednesday night at Corsica Studios a few years ago where DJ Rashad tore the roof off the club's humble yet powerful room 2. One of his final performances and also completely fucking rowdy. Now though, Hyperdub holds court at Corsica on a more regular basis and the stable's Ø parties are becoming somewhat of an essential trip. Back to Room 2 again and in March this year, there were more unannounced guests than what really seems acceptable. Bjork, Arca, Mica Levi and Jesse Kanda as Doon Kanda had underground heads across the entire country talking and crying that they'd missed such an epic event. This, by definition, is a fucking sick label party.

Bromance x Marble x Zone - Nous Sommes

For this label party, we hop back in time to 2014, where Bromance Records, helmed by Brodinski, was in full flow. At the height of the label's career, it teamed up with fellow French imprints Marble and Zone for a trio of wild and raucous parties across the country called Nous Sommes and it typified the feverish hype surrounding the stables. Although Bromance are no more, and Marble have been inactive for a while, ZONE are still churning out an amazing wealth of terror-drenched electro and techno. We went to the Parisian edition of Nous Sommes and the line-up was a joke, the best, ear-bashing kind of joke. Gesaffelstein, Club Cheval, Louisahhh, The Hacker, Para One, Surkin, Monsieur Monsieur, the list goes on as all three labels went into auditory warfare for a night of pure, French, magic. Glenjamn's video below sums up the madness that ensues. We'll miss you Bromance.

Mad Decent - Block Party

Diplo's Mad Decent has been running for just over a decade now and the Major Lazer frontman has backed up the craziness of the music with a huge amount of jaw-dropping parties. The Mad Decent Block Party is one of the most popular events that Mad Decent host and the American touring festival crashes its way around the country, bringing the label's best and rowdiest acts along for the ride. Last year saw the likes of Anna Lunoe, Ke$ha, DJ Snake, Justin Martin, Flosstradamus and Baauer all head out across the globe alongside Diplo and his band of merry dancers. Of course you can expect to see the boss man zorbing across the crowd and waving some flags around, but you can also enjoy one of the cooler line-ups on a circuit that's generally overwhelmed by EDM.

Dirtybird - BBQ

Ah the Dirtybird crew, Claude VonStroke's finest selection of house producers that cover the entire spectrum of sounds. We're talking bass house, booty house, booty bass house, tech house, chunky tech house. You name it, Dirtybird will have released it and it's no secret that the imprint is one of the most popular in the world. Although they play all over the globe, the Dirtybird crew's most legendary parties happen on home soil in the USA and whether it's in festival form as the Campout of one of their many gigs, they bang, hard. The Dirtybird BBQ is our favourite though, as Claude gets behind the grill as well as the decks to bring burgers and bangers to all attendees. Add in the core unit like Justin Martin, Kill Frenzy, Eats Everything and J.Phlip, and you've got yourself a lip-smacking label party.

Klockworks - Photon

We couldn't do a sick label parties list without talking about London's newest supervenue, Printworks. The Canada Water destination has quickly established itself as one of the freshest new spots for an epic, awe-inspiring rave. The final party of this season fell to Ben Klock alongside his Klockworks unit and who better to take control than the Berghain mainstay. It was the first party of his new PHOTON series and the premise is simple; Earth-crushing techno backed by solid beams of light in a striking space. All boxes ticked, this party was an audio-visual spectacular and he then took Marcel Dettmann and Etapp Kyle to Bloc in Hackney Wick for a similarly themed after-party. Another slammer from Klock and co.
