The Best DJ Mixes Of The Year 2026 So Far - April - Mixmag.net

livwutang ‘femme vocal dubstep’

We love a themed mix, and this one is a superlative selection that highlights a strong theme of dubstep’s current era: the dominance of women. We discussed that in a bit more detail in our tip to Carré in February’s best tracks, so here we’re just going to focus on this sublime 1 hour and 46 minutes selection from livwutang. It throbs, shuffles, and steps through so many moods and atmospheres, including weighty bass, airy melodies, menacing tones, skipping percussion, and vocals that mumble, soar and snap. If anyone ever thought dubstep is one note, here’s all the evidence of its range.

NOTION ‘Mixmag Lab’

Cover Mix and a Mixmag Lab in one? NOTION lived up to the double whammy billing with a party-starting mix of trademark bass and euphoria-tinged momentum. He’s had that big hit, but with this set he looks at what comes next, drawing for multiple forthcoming tracks and collabs that very much passed the road testing.

Verraco ‘The Lot Radio Dekmantel takeover’

Slipping and sliding through his mix as part of Dekmantel’s The Lot Radio broadcast live from NYC, Verraco serves up a propulsive combination of deft acid, cavernous low-end techno and kinetic electro, working through tracks from Skee Mask, Aphex Twin, LWS, Marcel Dettman and many more. An hour and half that gets both your body and brain moving.

Will Hofbauer ‘Origins Tapes 176’

Crikey! London-by-way-of-Down-Under DJ and producer Will Hofbauer turns up the heat with this mix as part of London promoter Origins’ mix series; working through minimalist loops, rowdy ‘80s bangers and impact-heavy percussion, this two-hour mix cascades through a multitude of tempos all-the-while maintaining a dynamic energy, utilising productions from FYI Chris, Quasimode, Axel Boman, Todd Terje, Facta & K.Lone and, er, Fleetwood Mac. Gearing up for the club music if we’ve ever heard it.

Jasmín ‘NTS April 30’

While firmly on the dance music radar by way of her productions, with a release on Hessle Audio and a fabric Originals project incoming, ignore Jasmín’s skills behind the decks at your peril, as she demonstrates with ease during this appearance on NTS. Building up with cascading synths, before descending into a hypnotic mixture of searing acid, fiery electro, and a good old techno wallop, the Dutch-Argentinian artist looks set to dancefloors aflame this summer.

BASHKKA ‘Dekmantel Mix 508’

A regular at Amsterdam’s annual electronic affair Dekmantel, BASHKKA was selected in April to take the reins on their mix series, putting together what she describes as a "sensual, hypnotic and driving" set. Veering from her sometimes industrial techno, sometimes ballroom-leaning sound, BASHKKA lays down groovy house and classic Chicago cuts in this smooth, sun-kissed mix.

riria ‘The Mix 104’

Trailblazing garage newcomer riria dug out some gems for her instalment of Mixmag’s The Mix in April, focusing “heavily” on UKG. In this full-throttle club mix, the Tokyo-born, London-based DJ pays homage to the bass music she's been influenced by since moving to the UK, designed to be “easy to listen to for any mood, even if you’re feeling down”. Crack this one on at full volume.

Gabrielle Kwarteng ‘BASEMENT 010’

New York’s own Gabrielle Kwarteng was announced as the newest resident at Queens venue BASEMENT in April, taking over its second room STUDIO, and to accompany the news, she spun an hour of simmering house and groove for the club’s mix series. This one is packed with classic cuts, slow-burning groovers and electro heat.
