The best DJ mixes of the year 2025 so far - February - Mixmag.net

RamonPang ‘Autechre - Selected 4x4 Works (1990-2020)’

Crowdsourced with help from Autechre’s Discord, LA-based DJ and producer RamonPang put together an hour-long mix of the UK duo’s four-to-the-floor offerings released across the three decades from 1990 to 2020. It’s a real gift of a mix, showcasing the more functional side from the IDM icons in a slickly synthesised set. It felt well-earned when, a couple of weeks later, the Tabula Rasa co-head was rewarded with an announcement of Autechre’s return to North America after more than a decade.

DJ HEARTSTRING ‘Mixmag Cover Mix’

Love was truly in the air this month as dance music’s very own cupids provided the ultimate Valentine’s Day soundtrack for their Mixmag Cover Mix. Ok, this one probably isn’t for the candlelit dinner — or for afterwards, unless your Valentine enjoys a high-energy mix of rowdy rave, buoyant trance and glistening house in the bedroom. With a cacophony of bangers from the likes of X Club, Paige Tomlinson, Southstar and more, DJ HEARTSTRING want you primed and ready for a big old snog in the club.

livwutang ‘RA.975’

New York’s shining star dishes out some trademark slow-burn in this hour-and-a-half mix for Resident Advisor, combining decadent dub, low-end deep house and piercing electro to create a mix that feels like a warm satisfying hug, while simultaneously on tenterhooks waiting for the next manoeuvre. Demonstrating a myriad of tempos and genres, livwutang mixes through creations from the likes of Om Unit, K-HAND, Harvey Sutherland, Carl Craig, Dr.Nojoke and many more.

Ela Minus ‘BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix’

Bogotá’s Ela Minus was always going to set minds-a-bending for her go at BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix, but did she really have to jet our pink stuff out into the stratosphere so thoroughly? As comfortable with taking us through a spine tingling 10 minutes of clashing, trickling percussion as she is slapping us with a rowdy drop of ‘Flight FM’, Minus pairs up her own experimental productions with well-worn favourites from the likes of Floating Points, Two Shell, Caribou and Nicholas Jar with a sprinkle of Entrañas’ ‘Corviche’ to pack in the heat.

Hewan Aman at pe:rsona ‘24 (subglow/Live 3)

Paris-based DJ Hewan Aman enters the deep and brooding world of dub at the debut edition of France’s pe:rsona festival, traversing psychedelic sounds over the span of two hours. "[This set is] playful, dubby, techy, with some psy vibes and also some deep and introspective bits. I played on a hot, sweaty afternoon during day 2, just as the sun was starting to cool down,” she explains.

Dogheadsurigeri ‘The Mix 050’

Journeying the past and present of trance across a cathartic hour, Warsaw-born, London-based DJ and producer dogheadsurigeri provides a “fast-paced, euphoric ride packed with dramatic highs and intense energy” in her recent Mixmag mix. A rush of anthemic horns and driving basslines take this mix to its transcendent heights, featuring tracks from old skool trance stars, new-to-the-scene talent, and several new cuts from dogheadsurigeri herself.

Michael Diamond ‘Off The Record 54’

In his recent mix for Phonica’s Off The Record platform, Michael Diamond explores deep basslines and percussion where “heavier, intense moments are interspersed by more reflective passages”. This one features tracks from Keplrr, Polygonia, Objekt, and many more, closing out with his own 2024-released track ‘Reverse Entropy’ featuring Alex Wilson.

Evissimax ‘The Mix 049’

Get this funky hour of dancefloor chaos by Milan’s Evissimax booming out your speakers. Across the course, she introduces us to a cocktail of Jersey club, rap, and her favoured “ghetto-techno”.

Carlita on The Lot Radio

Bucket hat on, USB loaded, Carlita is ready to serve us an hour of smooth, soulful beats. Gliding from rhythm to rhythm, this is one of those sets that has been perfectly crafted for a dancefloor full of people.

AbuGlitsch ‘☆ NTS RUSH MIX’

Sometimes, all you need are some throwback bangers and some cheeky eurodance, and that is exactly what DJ AbuGlitsch delivers. The Berlin-based DJ will get you jumping around the place to Drake’s ‘Rich Baby Daddy’ to then some of Germany’s finest rap with Pashanim’s ‘Ferragamo’.
