The best DJ mixes of the year 2025 so far - March - Music - Mixmag

Barry Can’t Swim in The Mixmag Lab

After the success of his debut Mixmag Lab two years ago, Barry Can’t Swim returns to the booth. This time, though, we’re not in the office space, but instead at London’s Hideout, a venue that saw him play his second-ever DJ set. The Scottish artist brought his selection of high-energy house while sneaking in some unreleased work before ending on his brand-new track ‘Different’ which is set to appear on upcoming album, 'Loner'.

anu ‘LM132’ (anu’s japanese hip hop mix)

Stepping up for the Libra mix series, anu pieces together nearly two hours of era-spanning Japanese hip hop. Bringing her expertise from years of research, the mix showcases the breadth found across the genre, spanning low-slung beats, triumphant horns, casual flows, sweetly sung refrains, glitchy rhythms, and more.

Djrum ‘Radio 1's Essential Mix’

Across two hours, three decks and more than 60 tracks, master technician Djrum delivers a show-stopping Essential Mix with turntable wizardry that few other DJs could ever hope to hold a candle to. Opening on the mystical ‘Waxcap’ from his upcoming new album, he soon dives into experimental delirium and blends that will blow your mind, tearing through genres spanning dancehall, IDM, hip hop, contemporary classical, jungle and more.

Sonia Calico ‘TREKKIE TRAX MIX: 002’

Taiwanese DJ Sonia Calico steps up for the TREKKIE TRAX mix series and delivers an hour-long excursion through punchy bass, ecstatic synths, hard-hitting percussion and urgent vocals.

Riz La Teef ‘Solitude Mix Series (100% UNRELEASED)’

Comprising entirely of unreleased material, this 65 minute mix from Riz La Teef is a tantalising tease of forthcoming music from producers inspired by soundsystem culture. Packing plenty of wobs and sludgy beats, make sure you have your subwoofer dialled up to lock in.

Tasha b2b Alienata ‘Live from Field Maneuvers’

A live recording from last year’s Field Maneuvers festival, this 90 minute back-to-back set sees Tasha and Alienata locked in. It’s fuelled by an invigorating and relentless energy that keeps the tension taut, delivering the type of dynamism to keep a tent packed out and moving into the early hours.

Mount Kimbie ‘The Mix 053’

Ahead of the release of their new football-themed jerseys, Mount Kimbie contribute to Mixmag’s The Mix series with an hour-long set that gives a "slight alternative to the YouTube football compilation watching experience”, packed with ‘90s-released tracks from Glenn Underground to N-Trance. “The idea I had for this mix came from those football compilations on YouTube with really shit music, that great but trash dance music,” explains Mount Kimbie’s Kai Campos.

Emily Jeanne ‘NR Sound Mix 076’

Described as a “dream-like” mix that switches in style and sound as if “jumping from one cloud to the other”, Emily Jeanne’s latest mix for NR Sound boasts a skilful selection of psychedelic techno, bass, and club, with features from Toma Kami, Deena Abdelwahed, and more. “This mix is a recent dream,” she says. “A sleep twitch.”

Logic1000 ‘DJ-Kicks’

A break from her usual low-slung house and gold-hued bass, Logic1000 explores a much calmer, more ambient world on her ‘DJ-Kicks’ mix, a reflection of her listening habits when not shelling it behind the booth. “I’ve slowed down and gone deeper with the music I love, especially since becoming a mother,” she says. Atmospheric cuts from Oklou, Saya Gray, DJ Plead, and plenty more introduce the mix, slowly morphing through a dubbed-out selection of trip hop and downtempo.

bullet tooth ‘Boiler Room SYSTEM: Bristol’

“Who is this mysterious Arcteryx-wearing person behind the decks?” I hear you cry. Well, it's none other than bullet tooth. Jumping around to wobbly cuts, including own work with the likes of Bklava to Capo Lee, it’s cheeky and fun in all the right ways.

Main Phase on Kindred

Taking to Kindred’s floating decks this month was the mighty Main Phase. Pulling some chunky tunes out of a hat like some sort of magician, this set has everything from an unrecognisable Digga D edit to energising baile funk.

Yetsuby ‘The Mix 052’

In the accompanying interview for her edition of Mixmag’s The Mix, Yetsuby describes feeling like she is wielding The Legend of Zelda Master Sword behind the decks — and let us tell you, the South Korean artist could liberate Hyrule many times over with this high-energy hour. Pounding, pumping techno meets slick electro, as Yetsuby utilises tracks from Polygonia, Surgeon, Tzusing and JKS — all alongside selections from burgeoning Seoul-based producers. Sing it with us “duh duh duh duhhh.”

LCN ‘ Crack Magazine: Live From Field Maneuvers’

Treading the thin line between complex, otherworldly experimental and dark-edged, unruly club is all in a day’s work for LCN, and this live recording from last year’s Field Maneuvers festival is no different. Pounding kicks, clattering percussion and a whole helping of tongue-in-cheek club references make for a FOMO-inducing hour-and-45-minute mix – perfectly encapsulated with a rowdy blend of DJ Phil’s ‘See You Dance’ and Robin S’ ‘Show Me Love’. A Master Maneuver-er.

Carré on KINDRED

Cavernous techno meets grinding breakbeat, Los Angeles-based DJ Carré balances murky bass with scuttling hats to put textures at the forefront in her most recent show, live from London’s KINDRED. Pairing some of her own unreleased productions with tracks from Untouchables, Elbarto and more — this hour-long mix is a masterclass in percussive contrast, with bubbling synths allowing complex drum patterns to take the centre stages.
