To celebrate our latest Cover Star, Mochakk makes his Mixmag Lab debut, delivering 100 minutes of jazz and funk-inspired music in the first-ever Mixmag Lab Maputo.

We spent a week with Mochakk in the Mozambique capital to capture his story through a cover feature and short documentary highlighting his music journey so far, also shot and edited by a local video team in Maputo.

“I’ve wanted to come to Moçambique for a long time, it was the first place outside of Brasil where people started consuming my music, and finally being here has been an incredible experience. I’ve been in touch with amazing local DJs for a while, and I’ve always heard great things about the scene from fellow Brazilian artists who have played here before me.

“Coming from Brasil, I know how challenging it can be to build a life in music in developing countries like ours. That’s why this Mixmag cover, shot in Moçambique, is so meaningful to me. It’s not only a milestone in my journey, but also a dedication to all emerging artists from places like Brasil and Moçambique. There’s so much talent and potential in our scenes, and I want the world to recognise that.

“My biggest passion when I play is sharing new music, just like I would with my friends, and I want to be able to help bring that same spirit of discovery to the public. Brasil and Moçambique have a connection through history, culture, and musical synergy, and I’m honoured to have collaborated with Mixmag there, to share my story, and to help shine a light on this beautiful scene. I’m so happy to have had this very, very special time captured. It felt like saying ‘thank you’ and getting hugged back.”
