Listen to a euphoric trance-inspired playlist curated by E L L E
The London-hailing artist shares some transcendent tracks
E L L E’s debut release ‘MOUTH’ dropped last month, showcasing an experimental approach to songwriting that keeps listeners on their toes.
Inspired by artists ranging from Aphex Twin to Three 6 Mafia and styles such as acid techno and hardstyle, the EP offers gripping hybrid sounds. Opener ‘CATFISH’ drags you into intoxicating bass fuzz then snaps to attention with crackling vocal delivery, while closer ‘YOWL’ hits psychedelic notes with glittering synth tones dancing above a pastoral foundation.

Speaking about the release, E L L E said: “The project is called ‘MOUTH’ because this for most is the first point of communication and putting these tracks together felt like speaking for the first time. The project is a place for all moods and sensations, just like a mouth is made of varying textures of soft lips and hard teeth. A person feels rage, joy and pain uniquely and all three at once. Vocal samples form the foundation of most of the sound design while in other places the vocal line guides the instrumentation directly. I wanted to make noise.”
Another of E L L E’s influences is ecstatic trance. To help us all transcend towards some much-needed elation, the London-hailing and Toulouse-based artist has put together a “playlist inspired by euphoric trance to lift you off the earth” and shared a short descriptor on each track.
