Dance System
L-Vis 1990 adopts his Dance System alias for the spankiest mix of the year
Along with Bok Bok, he's one of the driving forces behind Night Slugs but when L-Vis 1990 isn't playing and producing other-worldly bass music, he adopts a different alias, one that takes things to a completely new dimension entirely.
Under Dance System, James Connolly has been channelling his inner Dance Mania with a unique strain of ghetto house and it brims with attitude. Think of it as a mutant Chicago house that has all the same mischievous tendencies as tracks from the late 80's but with a modern, jagged edge. Spank for a new era.
He kicked things off back in 2014 with his debut offering and the four track EP on Clone Jack For Daze was a confident and assured introduction to a sound that we wouldn't usually associate with Connolly.
'Flash Drive' was a played-out roller that screamed Lil Louis' 'French Kiss' for a new generation and 'No More' was bumping its way round sound-systems worldwide. Perhaps the most exciting track on the record was 'Move It' as it featured the legendary Jammin Gerald. What more could you ask for on an EP that acts as homage to Dance Mania.
Although his output as Dance System is staggered and put on hold while Connolly performs as L-Vis, when he does release music, it's always maintains a high standard and it always hits fucking hard.
Now that 2015 is coming to an end, he's dropped another EP and if you thought Clone Jack For Daze was a fitting imprint for the outrageous pace, then this next one is literally perfect.
The 'System Preferences' EP came via Jimmy Edgar's intergalactic Ultramajic label in October and more brain-melting electronica followed. Still harking back to the booty-popping sounds of time gone by but with a welcomed touch of futuristic madness. We're thrilled to have Dance System go In Session for us and it's everything you'd expect and more.
Killer cuts from DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, Grain and of course Dance System are all wrapped up into an hour of blistering, uncontrollable gold. It's fast, it's feverish and it's damn right frisky. If you like your ghetto house spanky and relentless, then plug in and get lost in the madness of DS.
