This year saw 25,000 people descend on Cyprus for BEONIX's first ever sold-out festival, with highlights including a new stage aimed at platforming emerging DJs
Marking the end of festival season 2024, Cyprus’ annual BEONIX festival was bigger and better than ever, showcasing a dynamic range of musical and immersive experiences.
From September 20-22, the electronic music extravaganza took over the ETKO once again - a former winery on the south of the island - this time with an expanded four stages. And, for the first time in its three-year history, BEONIX sold out its Saturday show – a testament to its growing popularity and ever-increasing world-class bookings.
Boasting over 50 DJs from across the globe, the festival attracted a total of 25,000 visitors across three days, up from 15,000 in 2023. This energetic crowd danced the warm nights away, spurred on by an array of professional dancers and performers who added to the range of shows on offer.
Demonstrating the festival’s high-quality production value, the Main Stage was a laser-light spectacular complete with fireworks and stage flames. Amongst its impressive cast of DJs, the elusive Claptone brought his tech-house sensibility on Friday night, followed by Fatboy Slim who tore down the stage with his iconic rave bangers.
Saturday saw a heavier techno vibe, with ARTBAT and Axel Haube stealing the show, while Miss Monique provided a lighter, more melodic set. And, of course, Sunday went out with a bang as Tale Of Us and Brina Knauss got the crowd jumping and wishing they didn’t have to go home.
The Hangar Stage – a tunnel-shaped room reminiscent of London’s iconic Printworks – saw the likes of Annē, Teenage Mutants and Maruwa spinning the decks across the weekend, providing a more intimate setting for those who wanted to be fully absorbed by the music.
Meanwhile, the Organic Stage exemplified the festival’s commitment to musical diversity by hosting live performances including ones by Ameli Paul and Klangphonics, Avis Vox and Berlin-based duo GHIEST. Italian producer/DJ Undercatt closed the festival on the Organic Stage with a thumping two-and-a-half-hour set.
This year however BEONIX added a stage to its site and debuted an exciting new concept. Designed to platform emerging artists, the Garden Stage saw an exciting line-up of young DJs who had been hand-selected following Open Call put out earlier this year. The winning applicants were mentored by a range of more established DJs (all of whom also played at the festival) in preparation for their sets on the Garden Stage.
Not only did this provide a rare opportunity for aspiring DJs to play out to a festival crowd, but it also allowed its audience to glimpse at the future of electronic music, showcasing the most cutting-edge sounds.
Speaking on the festival’s development over the years, BEONIX organisers said: “We see the festival expanding every year. Each time, more people join us, many of whom fly in from other countries, which is fantastic."
For many, the festival is not just about the music, but also an opportunity to explore the island, experience Cypriot culture, and enjoy traditional cuisine," they continue "plus, the festival takes place at the end of September, when the main festival season has already ended. Here in Cyprus, it’s still warm, and you can swim in the sea in the morning and dance to your favourite DJs in the evening.”
What more could you want? And with the festival growing year by year, we can only expect good things for Beonix 2025.
