Where to drink

Mezcalería Mexiterránea (pictured above), Calle Santa Creu 3, Dalt Vila, Ibiza Town

Located in the heart of Dalt Vila, this quaint little Mexican mescal bar will appeal to clubbers who know their drink. Get a glass of the hot stuff for €7 and sup up the culture.

Es Polvori, Dalt Vila, Ibiza Town Located close to where the IMS stage their Dalt Vila parties, this hole-in-the-wall snack bar serves beer and wine for just €1.50! Take your drinks up onto the ramparts and stare out over the Mediterranean towards Formentera.

Café Babel, Plaza de la Iglesia, San Antonio The team at Café Babel serve the best mojitos on the island and all for the paltry sum of €6.50! For the same price, try their famous strawberry daiquiri, which is equally delicious.

Bay Bar, Avenida Doctor Fleming 20, San Antonio

Head to Bay Bar between 6pm and 9pm and enjoy two for one cocktails in one of San Antonio's plushest bars. The cocktails are made with fresh fruit and premium spirits and the soundsystem is equally crisp.

Can Miquelitus, Carrer de Manuel Sorà 1, Ibiza Town

Located just off the tourist track in Ibiza's Old Town, this little hatch-in-the-wall bar serves great fruit juices and cocktails at reasonable prices. They have a decent wine list and a glass of beer costs €2.20.

Candy Apple, Carrer l'Estrella 9, San Antonio A real workers 'favourite, Candy Apple's candy shakes and breakfast smoothies have quickly become as famous as their strawberry and mango daiquiris. Order the incredible Snickers shake with a hit of amaretto for just €6.95.

Madagascar, Plaza Del Parque 4, Ibiza Town A mild-mannered cafe by day, Madagascar keeps buzzing until 4am in the morning. The litre jugs of sangria are a specialty, or simply sink a few €2 beers.

Storico, Carrer de las Alzines, Playa d'En Bossa Next door to Sankeys, Storico is the perfect place to drop in for a pre-party drink. Make sure you ask about the two for one cocktail offers before ordering.

S'Escalinata, Carrer Portal Nou 10, 07800 Dalt Vila, Ibiza

Relax on the beanbags at this tiny cocktail house inside the castle walls of Dalt Vila. Grab a freshly squeezed juice for €4.50, a beer for €2.30, or a gin fizz for €7.50.

AVOID: Ordering cocktails without asking 'how much', and drinking along the main drag in Playa d'En Bossa without checking out a few online reviews beforehand. Also, many of Ibiza's bars increase their prices after 9pm, which is why it makes sense to sink your cocktails early and then switch to
beer or wine after dark.

How to save money on club tickets

Never, ever pay on the door at any of Ibiza's big clubs – you'll end up paying for it. Instead, keep an eye out for hustling PRs working the San Antonio promenade and the Playa d'En Bossa strip. They'll have loads of discount wristbands and they may even invite you in for free. It's also worth asking at your hotel – some of the fancier ones will actually put you on the guest list. For big nights there are often decent early bird offers: IbizaSpotlight.com, for example, offers €5–15 off door prices and queue-jump options. Also, before you arrive make sure you are following all your favourite DJs and island promoters on Twitter and Facebook, as free pop-up parties and exclusive afterparties are often announced on the day.

Your Mobile Phone

Most networks now offer European bolt-ons that will cut the cost of your phone usage while you're in Ibiza. Just make sure you tell your provider you're heading to the Balearics and not Spain, and remember to ask if you'll be charged to receive calls while you're in Ibiza.

Wi-Fi

Turn off your data roaming and use the free Wi-Fi available to guests and customers at most hotels, bars and cafes across the length and breadth of the island.

Cash and Cash Machines

The Pound is currently very strong against Euro, which means your money will go a lot further in Ibiza this summer than it has done at any time in the last five years. If you're changing money before you fly, do it before you get to the airport as they have the worst conversion rates– despite 0% commission. If you decide to use the cash machines in Ibiza you'll be asked if you want to withdraw your money in Pounds or Euros. Always withdraw in the local currency – in this case Euros – to avoid paying a slew of hidden fees.

AVOID: Paying for your club tickets, body paint and excursions in advance – Ibiza can get pretty crazy and it's likely your plans will change when you get to the island.
