Some huge changes this year with the departure of Cocoon (heading to Pacha) and Cream (off to Hï after an astonishing 22-year run). Former Sankeys pillars Abode and Do Not Sleep arrive as replacements. Abode residents George Harrison, Jimmy Switch and Ellie Cocks will take over the Terrace, with Do Not Sleep hosting the Main Room. Elsewhere, Ricardo Villalobos fronts a second brand-new techno series called Pyramid, Elrow will go full jamón on Saturdays and both Carl Cox and Solomun will stage one-off, pop-up parties in July. Meanwhile, Marco Carola’s red-lit techno juggernaut, Music On, becomes the club’s flagship night. Over the season the Italian DJ will be joined by the likes of Green Velvet, Leon, Stacey Pullen, Joey Daniel, Miss Kittin, Oxia, Derrick May and Felix Da Housecat. This year's concept in the Club Room is It's All About The Music, with the promise of "suggestive sounds and avante-garde techno." Together also returns to own Tuesdays with bassy, big-name talent.

Paco Osuna (Music On) on the magic of Marco Carola

“It was a few years ago at the Closing Party. All of us were playing that year: Marco, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and myself. Richie, Ricardo and I were playing in London the night before, and we had to travel back to Ibiza in a private jet. But the weather was bad, there were delays at the airport before we could take off, and on the flight there was so much turbulence. We finally landed at 1pm in the afternoon; I had been due to play at 9am in the morning. That meant Marco had to play for seven or eight straight hours while he – and the crowd – were waiting for us to arrive. But afterwards, the whole island was talking about how Marco kept the crowd dancing for so many hours; he played so well that it turned out to be a really memorable night, and a very big step for him in Ibiza. And now, Music On is one of the biggest techno nights on the island!”

Everyone’s favourite off-the-radar hangout will open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays this summer. Alongside tINI and Rhadoo, who retain their Tuesday and Thursday slots, Romanian micro-house producer Barac joins Underground for a new mini-residency, Shamandrum. In true Underground style, you won’t hear a great deal of hype about it, but this is where scores of island regulars and in-the-knows will be in 2018. You’ll also find a fine selection of pop-up parties scattered about the calendar, including a rare one-off affair by Moscow collective The Volks. On Saturdays, DJs like Mathew Johnson, Dana Ruh, Nima Gorji, Alessia Ceruti and Apollonia drop by to headline.

UNDERGROUND Headliner Alessia Ceruti DISCOVERS ATLANTIS

“It was early morning and we’d just finished our Brouqade & Friends showcase at Underground. One of my friends came up with the idea to spontaneously go (for the first time!) to Atlantis, one of the ‘secret’ spots on the island, so that we could chill in a bit of an unusual place. We had a vague idea of where Atlantis was on the map, so we parked the car and started to walk – or should I say hike – but we soon discovered that it wasn’t going to be easy in the morning heat! After about an hour, we finally found the place. Atlantis is amazing, and absolutely worth the journey, although the route back up the cliff was pretty exhausting – I definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone trying it in 30 degree heat! But after our little adventure we were still pretty content and really just so happy to be there, lost in that moment. I know it probably sounds like a strange thing to do after a party, but for me the best things in life are always spontaneous, and in Ibiza it’s important to enjoy the nature and the sea as much as you can – even if you haven’t slept much! After all, there’s nowhere on earth where you can do both quite like Ibiza.”

Alessia Ceruti’s TOP 5 Ibiza TRACKLIST

1. Pherox ‘Gabrielle’ (Rhadoo remix) (Brouqade)

“Amazing, timeless remix by Rhadoo for Pherox on Brouqade that came out back in 2012”

2. Dana Ruh ‘Round 2 Reel 2’ (Autoreply)

“A great track from Dana’s latest EP, one that shows her minimal side and her trademark deep touch”

3. Seafoam ‘Earth Time’ (Dreamers Recordings)

“A special track for me from the legendary US producer Seafoam, who I had the honour of signing to Dreamers Recordings”

4. Christopher Ledger ‘Percezione Attiva 1’ (Brouqade)

“Harmonic and blissful tones with special piano chords. This is such a beautiful track by the very talented Christopher Ledger on Brouqade”

5. Ion Ludwig ‘After Ysle’ (Ugold Series)

“The perfect groove trip from the master, Ion Ludwig”

For the first time since Ibiza Rocks was founded, live rock, pop and folk music is off the agenda this summer. Why? To comply with local noise legislation, clubs in Ibiza must adhere to something called The Acoustic Plan, which specifies the exact position of every instrument and speaker in the venue. Compliance is relatively easy for DJ gigs, but almost impossible if you’re in the business of hosting headline bands, who tend to use their own equipment and almost always tour with their own sound engineer. And yet, with guitars on hold for the foreseeable future, club life in San Antonio has actually become even more fun. These days, every colour-lashed event on the Rocks roster is a daytime, poolside affair, with MK, Craig David, Rudimental and Stormzy offering house, bass, garage and grime fans a myriad of top alfresco options throughout the week. Who needs Kasabian?

MK (Area 10, mondays) on the magnetic pull of Ibiza

“A few years ago I played Pacha on a Tuesday and it was Paradise Closing on the Wednesday. My management did not want me to go to that party. They knew it was going to be crazy, and they wanted me to go back to London, because I was booked to fly home to America on the Thursday. They spent hours trying to talk me out of it, but I was adamant I was going. They told me: ‘If you don’t leave now and catch the flight to London, you’ll automatically lose the ticket to LA.’ I was pretty pissed. So I flew back to London, checked into the hotel, dropped off my suitcase, took a taxi back to Gatwick and jumped on the first plane back to Ibiza. I wore a hood as every time I pass through the airport someone always asks for a photo – and they usually tweet it. At the desk I had to pull down my hood so they could check my passport. Just then some kid walks up and says, ‘Hey MK, can I have a picture?’ Luckily, he didn’t tweet it. I made it to the party, and the following morning I flew back to London, grabbed my suitcase from the hotel and flew on to LA. My management still don’t know that story!”

MK’s TOP 5 Ibiza TRACKLIST

1. Armand Van Helden ‘Painkiller’ (MK remix) (3beat Records)

“I really wanted this to have a 90s vintage vibe, so I used the exact same equipment I used to make ‘Burning’”

2. Del-30 ‘You Won’t Regret’ (Sola)

“This track is my homage to the culture of Detroit”

3. Will Clarke ‘Take A Seat’ (Dirtybird)

“The percussion is so on-point that this always goes off in my sets”

4. Tada Martin ‘Timeless’ (Unreleased)

“This track is going to be the soundtrack to my Ibiza summer!”

5. MK ‘17’ (Columbia)

“The response this got when I was just testing it out made me realise it was going to be a landmark moment for me”

Circoloco put DC10 on the map at the turn of the century, and it still packs more of an unadulterated techno punch than any underground event on the island, with genre heavyweights like Ben Klock and Rødhåd always playing double-tough. In 2012, a second huge party launched at the club. Inspired by the chaos of the Circoloco dancefloor, Paradise (with Jamie Jones and his Hot Creations crew) is becoming increasingly diverse in its sonic output. For many of the leading underground DJs resident on the island, DC10 was the first club in Ibiza to book them; that’s why you’ll see so many headliners on the Circoloco line-up. No-one spins for free, of course, but when it comes to the legendary DC10 it pays to make concessions.

Circoloco’s BLOND:ISH on the Island’s freaky side

“A few years ago we wanted to experience something new and different on the island. We heard about a Tantra festival, so we decided to sign up. Put it this way: it was the most interesting few days of our lives! You got up at 6am, did your meditation and breath-work exercises, opened your chakras and connected with the spirit world. On the second day things got really freaky. There was a ‘no touching’ rule, but a lot of people broke those rules… and let’s just say we saw a lot of different things going on in certain corners! It was exotic, to say the least, but really fun to be a part of, and very much outside our comfort zones.”

Blond:ish TOP 5 Ibiza TRACKLIST

1. Innersphere ‘Phunk’ (ISH edit) (Intacto)

2. Andre Lodemann ‘Where Are You Now’ (MFR edit) (Best Works)

“The perfect edit for ‘that’ moment”

3. Sobek ‘Jewel of the Nile’ (ABRACADABRA Records)

“Feeling all loved up on the dancefloor”

4. Hatiras ‘Spaced Invader’ (ISH edit) (Intl House Records) “Made especially for DC10”

5. BLOND:ISH ‘CheekON’ (ABRACADABRA Records)

“A jokes and journeys track”
