4 Bruce Trail
Lone's label Magicwire was mentioned in the write-up for TRP (see below) and it gets a nod again this time round thanks to Canadian producer Bruce Trail. His 'Ravine Dream' EP came out in August and the first tune we heard was 'Bridgework'. It's rubbery, elasticated house music filled with delectable pads and kid-spoken samples and the dip at the 2.50 mark is a wavy stroke of genius. We were so taken aback by the track, it ranked at number 13 of our top tunes of 2016. 'Silver II' is a woozy jam as well, reminiscent of the serene Canadian hiking path he takes his artist name from. You won't find much else of the Canadian producer's work online, but that's because his 'Ravine Dream' release was originally a Bandcamp-only package, later whittled down to four tracks for Magicwire. There's a few tracks from that leftover on his SoundCloud, 'One Lover' being one of them, letting us know he's capable of harder, hammering house. Another, 'Alterra', is a complete flip, showcasing a tip-toe ambience for New Kanada Recordings. Basically, Bruce is capable of tunes suitable for the dance or a dreamy chill session, with more planned for Magicwire next year. Just which trail will he take us down? D Turner
