10 ways Trump has been trolled by dance music
From Trumpin Tracks to naked Trump
For many of us Americans, the Trump Presidency is like a hellish nightmare we can’t wake up from, at least for another four years. That said, what can make this nightmare more bearable is a good laugh or two. Lucky for us, society, artists and the music industry in particular, has provided us with many lighthearted moments to carry us through.
There are those nervous laughs, like when your car just broke down on the side of the road and you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’re completely fucked, which some might have experienced the morning after the election, and then there are those laugh out loud moments, like when that ugly Trump troll doll was on a tour of the country. To help everyone through this crazy time we’re in, the Trump jokes Mixmag has outlined here are more of the latter.
From parody music videos, fake press releases and cease and desist letters from the President himself, here are the 10 ways Trump has been trolled by dance music.

Trumpin Tracks
With a Soundcloud bio that reads “MAKE HOUSE GREAT AGAIN” it’s clear that whoever is behind the Trumpin Tracks project is in it for the right reasons. Although at first glance one might think the music coming from this candidate is a joke, a closer inspection finds hard hitting, gritty acid house and techno aimed directly at the dancefloor. Tracks like ‘Ghetto Trump’, ‘Trump Dat’, ‘Feel My Trumpin' Bass’ and ‘Trump That Body’ standout as gems of the underground. Now as a limited edition vinyl release surfaces, this project is officially huge, and I mean HUGE!
Gorillaz 'Hallelujah Money' feat. Benjamin Clementine
Forget the excruciating anticipation for the Gorillaz’s 2017 album ‘Humanz’, when the first single surfaced, the project helmed by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett made a strong political statement that resonated with millions around the world. The music video for ‘Hallelujah Money’ dropped the day before Donald Trump’s inauguration and introduced the new, politically charged material. In the video, vocalist Benjamin Clementine is depicted as singing from Trump Tower with lyrics like, “And I've thought the best way to perfect our tree is by building walls. Walls like unicorns in full glory and galore and even stronger than the walls of Jericho”. So far no wall has been built, but Mexico has officially stated they are definitely not going to pay for one.
Moullinex 'Build a Wall?'
Continuing on the theme of Trump’s wall fixation, Lisbon’s Moullinex produced a track titled ‘Build a Wall?’ and released it as a free download around the same time of Trump’s inauguration. With a catchy bass melody, infectious rhythms, retro twangs and tight production, the track is pure class. The best musical Trump trolls are tracks that are actually listenable and Moullinex delivered. He paired the track with a clear message of his sentiment, “Idiots are taking over. Let's build a wall around Donald”. We’re with you Moullinex!
III Points festival billboard with naked Trump Statue
“Naked Donald Trump appears above III Points music festival billboard”. This was not the work of III Points, but when the statue of a naked Donald Trump appeared above a billboard for the music festival in the fall of 2016, headlines put both aspects together as one. That said, the naked Trump statues had already been circulating around the United States for months prior, making stops in Los Angeles, New York City, Cleveland and more. They are in fact the work of INDECLINE, an anarchist collective that dubbed the street art initiative as The Emperor Has No Balls. The piece in Miami was commissioned by the events space Mana Wynwood, where dance music events are held throughout the year. They're our kind of party people.
Run The Jewels '2100'
It’s no secret that Killer Mike and El-P of Run The Jewels despise Donald Trump. Following the presidential election, the duo shared a new track titled ‘2100’ along with a message to the general public: "for our friends. for our family. for everyone who is hurting or scared right now. here is a song we wrote months ago. we weren't planning on releasing it yet but… well it feels right, now. its about fear and its about love and its about wanting more for all of us. its called 2100. we hope it finds you well."
Snoop Dogg - Lavender ft. BadBadNotGood, Kaytranada
When Los Angeles hip hop innovator Snoop Dogg decided to lay down a verse on BadBadNotGood’s track ‘Lavendar’ it was a bit of a surprise to everyone. The original was released previously on the band’s album ‘IV’ in 2016, but Snoop had other plans when he heard it months later as he was going through beats. It was a politically charged time in early 2017, so as such Snoop’s remix blossomed into an anti-Trump, anti-authority anthem and the tracks video brought his vision to life.
In collaboration with Youtube star Jesse Wellens and music video director James DeFina, what would ensue would spark outrage from Donald Trump himself due to featured imagery, which included Trump as a clown, Snoop aiming a toy gun at the Trump clown and a Trump press conference where the President deported all dogs. This video and track may very well be the best Trump troll to date. One that will live on with esteem from the anti-Trump population.
Deadmau5 on Trump’s immigration ban
Great. Trump banning immigrants. Guess you better send Melania back too.
— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) January 28, 2017
We’re just going to leave this deadmau5 tweet here because it makes us chuckle. Leave it to the mau5trap label boss to share a quip like this. Trump’s immigration ban had many around the world outraged, but seeing as dance music artists likely travel the world more often than most, this sparked a discussion about how the ban could affect the industry. That said, deadmau5’s comment hit the right mark.
FIGHT CLVB ‘Donald Trump’
If Donald Trump’s team sends a cease and desist letter in response to a troll, it’s safe to say that troll has done its job. This is what took place after New York’s EDM savants FIGHT CLVB released the video for their track simply titled ‘Donald Trump’. Throughout the election process numerous artists produced parody tracks and videos, but how many of them received cease and desist letters is unknown. In the case with FIGHT CLVB, the duo decided to send their own letter back to Trump stating they had no intention of taking down the video or the track, citing their right to freedom of speech. Of course this could all have been a hoax, but the move stands as a memorable moment during the early days of Trump’s Presidency. Just watch the hilarious imagery in the music video above to see why.
Moby's fake press release
Moby’s fake press release to announce his new album is arguably the most creative Trump troll in recent memory. The mock press release from John Miller, a fake name Trump used when posing as a spokesperson for himself, gives some detail of the new music while taking jabs at Moby himself: ”The first album they released is very noisy... As is this second album, just see the title, pretty clear. But it's like they hate America and think it's NOT GREAT AGAIN. So, don't listen to this as i won’t be listening, even though they are giving it away for free! Idiots!”
Nice one Moby, this truly had the industry buzzing. So good!
Trump’s three little dancers
Whoever approved this song probably should have been fired, but we’re glad they made this possible because it turned out to be one of the biggest jokes of the election aside from Donald Trump himself. When the video surfaced of three little girls performing cheesy dance moves while singing a patriotic song over an excruciatingly terrible electronic track, it was a palms in the face moment. It might very well be embarrassing for all of us Americans... Seriously though, when I first saw this I had to do a double-take to confirm that it was real! The predominantly white, old, tired people in the background just make it so much worse. Nobody trolls Trump like Trump himself.
