ZHU and Deadmau5 sign to reform online copyright laws

The petition targets the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 has continued to be a heated topic in the industry.

The legislation was originally designed to fight online piracy, but in the modern digital realm, now acts as more of a headache than help for the digital age of producers and distributors.

The DMCA currently prohibits and criminalizes the circumvention of electronic and digital copyright systems.

180 artists and music industry players have banded together to oppose the outdated act, calling for a reconsideration of how it affects the current scene, acting as a plea to completely reform its rules. Among the signees of the new petition are Deadmau5, ZHU and industry behemoths like the RIAA, Universal Music Group, Sony and Warner Bros.
