Unslaved - 8/10

'Punjab/Apogee'

Grade 10 was responsible for some of our favourite records in 2015 – see both the Kollaps and Prayer EPs – and it continues its form with Unslaved’s first 12” for the label.

Opening track ‘Punjab’ is almost beyond classification, seemingly drawing influences from a host of crackly sounds and experiences to create its own enchanting soundscape, while the flip, ‘Apogee’, seems to channel memories of both early grime beats and classic dubstep: think hearing ‘Custard Chucker’ wobble on a battered old tape deck.

The unnerving flow, white noise and horror-score melodies on final track ‘TTA’ then sign off on what’s a real statement record.
