Tom Ashbrook releases new single, ‘tu:orbit’
It precedes his forthcoming EP, ‘ko:da’
Liverpool-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Tom Ashbrook has released his latest single, ‘tu:orbit’.
The ethereal, haunting tune features vocalist Greta Svabo Bech, to combine Ashbrook’s classical influence with Bech’s careful lyricism.
“The words are inspired by the emotion embedded in the music, and, at the time of writing the words I was also in the process of moving home (and country),” she explains. “After living out of a suitcase for such a long time, I felt somehow in limbo, unrooted. I had been thinking a lot about the cyclical nature of things, the strength of our roots, our people, our place. What anchors us.”

Speaking on ‘tu:orbit’, Ashbrook says: "This piece started out as a continuation and reharmonized version of Klass [his 2020 release] and still in instrumental form. Opening up the concept of Klass and the journey of two people I thought it would be interesting to hear a vocal side to it and what it could mean to someone else. I instantly thought of Greta to try pen a lyric to it as her vocals have such an individual quality and write about how two people can be so close, but spinning out of control so far apart."
‘tu:orbit’ is one of the tracks that features on Ashbrook’s upcoming EP, ‘ko:da’. The EP opens with a rework of his 2020 track ‘Klass’, which is featured in a cinematic short film entitled ‘MISSUXO’.
