Theo Parrish is mixing the next 'DJ-Kicks' release

Theo Parrish is the next artist to contribute to the legendary !K7 Records’ ‘DJ-Kicks’ series.

Titled ‘DJ-Kicks: Detroit Forward’, the compilation features songs selected on the theme of the “present and future of Detroit music”.

Included in the mix is his own track ‘Real Deal’ with Duminie DePorres, which was released earlier this year, as well as 18 other tracks.

Showcasing Motor City music, the mix also features the likes of De'Sean Jones, Raj Mahal, Monica Blaire, Deon Jamar and more

The final mix was sequenced and recorded by Parrish, who also handled the creative direction of the release's cover art

Via a statement, Theo Parrish said on the project: "Detroit creates. But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight. In the Great Lakes there’s always more under the surface – more than what appears to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about those that defy tradition? Those that sidestep the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence. Enjoy."
