The Paradise Garage building is being demolished

Farewell to a legendary New York spot

The building that used to house the iconic Paradise Garage is being demolished.

The Larry Levan fan page on Facebook posted pictures of the notice of demolition that has appeared on the club’s former home in recent days. The notice shows that permission for the demolition was granted in July.

Since the club’s closure in 1987, the building has been home to Verizon, a multinational telecommunications conglomerate.

Paradise Garage, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in September, is known as one of dance music’s most iconic clubs where Levan held an infamous residency from 1977 to 1987.
