The Gorillaz might drop a surprise new album on us

"We don't want to wait seven years"

The early part of 2017 was spent in an anxious frenzy, awaiting the arrival of the Gorillaz's highly anticipated 'Humanz' album. The hype was pushed to the edge: a physical 'Spirit House' was built, a television show was announced and a global listening party was hosted through an augmented reality application.

Despite the extravagant roll-out of the band's fifth studio album and the fact that they're in the midst of their 'Humanz' tour, it seems like the Gorillaz might be preparing to release yet another LP sooner rather than later.

“I really like the idea of making new music and playing it live almost simultaneously,” Damon Albarn told Q Magazine in an interview. “It will be a more complete record than ‘The Fall’, but hopefully have that spontaneity.”

'The Fall' was the Gorillaz's fourth album which was released in 2010 in a similar surprise style.

“If we’re going to do more with Gorillaz we don’t want to wait seven years because, y’know, we’re getting on a bit now," Albarn added. "We’re excited but we need to get these shows finished first. You never know what’s around the corner.”
