Attend a talk with Khyam Allami on decolonising music making tools
It’s held on March 19 with the Arab British Centre and MENA Arts UK
Iraqi-British multi-instrumentalist, composer and researcher Khyam Allami will be giving a talk on March 19 at 1pm with the Arab British Centre and MENA Arts UK.
Founder of Nawa Recordings, Allami primarily plays the Oud. His artistic research has been based on the development of Arab music, focusing specifically on tuning and microtonality. He recently developed two free programs encouraging experimentation with global tuning systems challenging the Western biases of music production software.
In his talk next week, Allami will be discussing his newest software and the work he has done to decolonise music making tools.

Allami’s talk forms part of the Arab British Centre’s Hangout series, a free online programme devised in response to the UK lockdown last March to encourage a sense of community and offer creatives a chance to discuss their work.
Since February they have revived the Hangout series in collaboration with MENA Arts UK, who celebrate artists working in the UK with a connection to the Middle East, North Africa and surrounding areas.
