Sven Väth (KiNK remix)
KiNK puts a whole new level of weirdness on a Sven classic
There's a reason Sven Väth is nicknamed 'Papa'. Boss of Cocoon, one of the finest labels and parties around, the German really is the techno daddy.
Royalty of Berlin's Love Parade, he's been turning heads and setting dancefloors alight since way back in the early '90s. Two decades on and he's got no problem doing exactly the same. Whether that be all summer long at Cocoon's Amnesia home in Ibiza or Time Warp, the mammoth techno rave that Mannheim is just about recovering from having happened last weekend.
A fine producer, too, he's given us twisted monsters like 'Komm' (with Rother) and all-over-the-place trips like 'Accident In Paradise'. The latter came out in '93 but gets a new lease of life this month as part of a remix package on Cocoon. Bulgarian producer KiNK follows up releases on Pets Recordings and Running Back with his take on the track, adding a whole new level of weirdness.
But who said weird is a bad thing? The whacky synths and squiggly rhythms he injects into this are the kind we love, so when the epic string work and rattling tribal drums seeped in on our first listen, we instantly stamped it with that A* grade.
'Accident In Paradise, Robot Remixes', also featuring Kölsch, is out via Cocoon Recordings on April 15
