Ibiza mainstay and Circoloco resident Renè has died aged 47

The respected Italian DJ was known for his eclectic sets on the White Isle throughout the 2000s

Much-loved Italian DJ and resident at Ibiza’s Circoloco, Renè, has died aged 47 following heart complications.

Italian news outlet Corriere Della Serra confirmed the passing of the Rome-born DJ, real name Renato Gimani, yesterday (February 26). Gimani passed away in a hospital in Rome after suffering with heart complications related to a congenital malformation, the publication reports.

Renè was a beloved touring DJ and Ibiza club staple during the early ‘00s. Born in the 1970s in Rome, Renè would take up DJing in his teenage years and move to Riccione just north of San Marino where he played at clubs including Titilla, Peter Pan, Cocoricò, and Bologna’s Contatto.

In 2000, Renè moved to the White Isle to pursue his music career further, taking up a residency at DC-10’s Circoloco club night following his move. He remained a long-running member of the Ibiza dance music scene in the years following.

Outside of his career in Ibiza, Renè toured across the world and played at celebrated clubs and festivals including Barcelona’s Sonár Festival, London’s The End club, and Bar 25 in Berlin.

“We are shocked by the news of the sudden passing of DJ Rene. A friend, a brave man and a great deejay leaves us,” Ibiza’s Circoloco posted on social media yesterday.

“The whole Circoloco family wishes to express the deepest condolences and closeness to his family and loved ones. René, we will miss you.”

Renè’s funeral took place today at The Church of Artists (Santa Maria in Montesanto), in Piazza del Popolo, Rome. Family, friends, and fans paid tribute to the late DJ and record collector.
