RBMA Weekender announces line-up for Sydney return
ABRA and Tony Humphries are heading to Australia for the first time
Red Bull Music Academy has announced the huge line-up for its Sydney Weekender return later this year.
ABRA (pictured) will make her Australian debut after being forced to cancel appearances at Pitch and Days Like This festivals back in March, along with stalwart Chicago vocalist Peven Everett, legendary Zanzibar club resident Tony Humphries and more over four days of parties from August 31-September 3.
Among the highlights will be 'RBMA Presents: VIA ALICE,' a new multicultural collaboration between American artist Khalif Diouf (Le1f), Indigenous Australian dancer and choreogropher Waangenga Blanco, and producers Daniel Stricker (Midnight Juggernauts) and John Kirby (Sébastien Tellier), which will take people on a surreal and immersive journey from NYC into the vast Australian outback and the upper reaches of the Cape York Peninsula via the town of Alice Springs.
The Carriageworks performance will run across four evenings, accompanied by a free virtual reality screening open to the public for the festival’s duration.
Meanwhile, Jersey Sound pioneer Tony Humphries will be in discussion with Lorna Clarkson during the Saturday's daylight hours at 107 Projects.
That night, 'Zanizbar meets Mad Racket' at Marrickville Bowling Club will host a five-hour set from Humphries on his first Australian trip, joined by the Sydney crew's Simon Caldwell, Jimmie James and Ken Cloud for "an extraordinary exchange of house music across the Zanzibar era to present day."
Chicago composer and vocalist Peven Everett - who collaborated with Roy Davis Jr. on 'Gabriel' - will perform with a live quartet in a secret open-air location on the Saturday afternoon as well, joined by J'Nett, CC:DISCO! Mike Who and more.
A number of 'Road to Weekender' parties in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide have also been announced for August 26-31.
