Queer activists to hold dance party protest outside Republican Senator’s house
In protest of the newly proposed healthcare bill
Queer activists WERK for Peace are set to fight against the Republican’s recently revealed healthcare bill by organizing a dance party protest outside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s house in Washington, D.C. on the night of Monday, June 26.
If the new healthcare bill passes, it will break down Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, restrict Medicaid and give tax breaks to upper-class, wealthy Americans.
WERK for Peace founder Firas Nasr elaborated on why they are protesting tonight: "Mitch McConnell and his cronies of cis-hetero able-bodied white men need to know that we will not give them a pass to blatantly attack our communities. If they choose not to listen to what we have to say about our personal health and well-being, and if they choose to prioritize corporate interests, then we will show up at their doorstep to make it known that we are not ok with them targeting us."
The protest will begin at 6:00 PM around the Columbus Circle Fountain which is across the street from Union Station located at 50 Massachusetts Ave. NE. Find more information on the upcoming protest here
