Orbital’s historic 1994 Glastonbury performance to get official release

The landmark show will be released on coloured vinyl, CD and digitally for the first time ever

Orbital’s historic 1994 Glastonbury performance is set to be released officially for the first time ever, landing this autumn.

Audio from the legendary set, which saw the duo take to the festival’s former NME Stage to close things out on Saturday night, has been "meticulously restored and remastered" for its first official release.

A double LP featuring two coloured vinyl and photography inserts from the fabled night is set to land via London Records on September 25, and will also be released on CD and digitally.

The set is widely regarded as capturing the moment when electronic music transitioned from the underground to big festival stages, changing the trajectory of Glastonbury’s programming forever.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis herself dubbed it "an unforgettable show for all who were there, and the night everything changed", saying that it felt like the "start of something new".

"It was the first time I had seen anything like this on one of the main stages," Eavis said, "and we’ve not looked back since."

While the performance was broadcast by the BBC at the time, the full set has yet to be made available to listen back to. An album of "rare live recordings" from Orbital's Glastonbury performances between ‘94 and ‘04 was released in 2007, but only featured snippets.

The historic set saw Orbital come together donning their now-iconic head torches, performing across a range of synthesisers, sequencers and samplers.

Speaking on the performance, Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll explained: "All I remember is the energy from the crowd, this love…. oozing out, like it was vibrating from them. It was just an amazing feeling."
