Pretty Green gathered Manchester figureheads for its most recent talk series
Panelists including Bez and Peter Hook shared memories of the Madchester music scene
Following the launch of Pretty Green's SS17 collection, which takes inspiration from Manchester’s legendary ‘Madchester’ music era, Liam Gallagher's label headed to the birth place of the iconic scene to present a Q&A with some of the most prolific figures that helped spearhead the phenomenon during the late 80s and early 90s.
The intimate, invite-only event at Granada Studios - famed for hosting The Beatles' first ever TV performance - was also held in honor of Inspiral Carpets drummer Craig Gill, who passed away last November and was hosted by fellow Inspiral member and XFM Manchester presenter Clint Boon.
Influential members of the panel included Sankeys Soap and Haçienda resident DJ Bobby Langley, legendary Manchester figurehead and Happy Mondays member Bez, The Charlatans founder and bass player Martin Blunt, New Order and Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, longstanding Haçienda resident Graeme Park, Gio-Goi founders Christopher and Anthony Donnelly, behind some of the city's most notable raves, and renowned fashion stylist and Grazia fashion editor Jane Taylor-Hayhurst.
Starting with a brief introduction and insight into the roles each panel member played in amplifying Madchester, the talk progressed into nostalgic memories of the fashion and music during the ecstasy-driven acid house era, covering stories from originally running the renowned Haçienda club on a profit loss (partly due to not selling bottled water) to the closing of the iconic club and the sale of the infamous DJ booth, which was bought by Bobby Langley for £8000.
