Premiere: Duke Hugh brings the funk with 'Burning Up'

The 'Approaching Lights' EP is out May 26

It’s been a busy couple of months for Duke Hugh after he was discovered through a green USB handed to Rhythm Section boss Bradley Zero.

The Peckham imprint released the Amsterdam native's album ‘Canvas’, an exciting debut that blended sleazy g-funk basslines, hazy house and guitar-driven folk.

Having followed it up with a more straightforward house release on Dutch label La Freund, he’s now contributed an EP to mark the launch of new label Music Of Colour.

The ‘Approaching Lights’ EP is a four-tracker of blissed out strings, dusty percussion and funky rhythms. The stand out is ‘Burning Up’, a track driven by a flexing harpsichord riff that is as languid as it is funky and underpinned by a swaggering bassline that interplays expertly with earthy drums.

A limited first pressing of the EP is currently available with a screenprinted cover made with Holy Water Gin (Duke Hugh’s own gin brand) infused colour.

The EP comes out on May 26 but you can preorder the EP now on Bandcamp this weekend
