Pioneering dance music labels celebrated in new zine collection
Dubstep Vol. 1 joins Velocity Press’ The Icon Catalogue series
A new zine has been added to Velocity Press from The Icon Catalogue series celebrating iconic dance music labels.
Previously releasing, UK Garage Vol. 1 and Jungle Vol. 1, it has now released Dubstep Vol. 1 which covers 40 prolific labels within the dubstep scene.
Combining interviews and archival material, the zines were launched last year by Chris Dexta of Planet Wax record shop in New Cross, London.

This latest edition features the likes of Boka, Hyperdub, Skull Disco, Tempa, Uprise Audio and many more including some "heavy-hitting newcomers."
Dexta has merged his interest in music with graphic design to fully design what is known as The Icon Catalogue series.
Dexta told DJ Mag: “Dubstep was a scene that emerged from the darker garage I was into as I was starting my journey into dance music. It grew rapidly and got so big — from tiny rooms in Croydon and Hackney to huge arenas all over the world.

“It's a genre that I've dabbled with and have been collecting for some time now. I'm so glad that with the support from Velocity Press, I've been able to wrap up and release Dubstep Vol. 1. Now we can get to work on part two, and many other styles!"
