Ibiza's Pikes to extend dancefloor phone ban to 7 days a week

As an extension to its Monday night policy, the nightclub and hotel will be placing stickers over the phone cameras of attendees as a permanent fixture

Expect to see clubgoers living in the moment, without a phone in sight at Pikes Ibiza from now on.

The legendary White Isle hotel and nightspot is extending its dancefloor photography ban to seven nights a week.

Having introduced the policy on Monday nights since April, Pikes announced the change via Instagram, writing: “Keep your phones in your pocket and your mind on the music.”

Attendees will now be asked to place a sticker over their phone camera at the entrance to Pikes' grounds, with staff adding that members of staff will be on hand to remind crowds of the rule if they are caught taking photos or videos.

The post goes on to detail that the initial one-day-a-week policy had "caused quite the stir around the island," prompting a "positive shift in the way people experience parties in Ibiza."

This “positive shift” is most likely a reference to another popular club on the island, Hï Ibiza, also adopting the policy — banning phones at its Damian Lazarus Club Room residency and subsequently at the James Hype and Meduza Club Room residencies.

“Keeping your phone in your pocket and your mind on the music – and knowing that everyone around you is doing the same – opens up a whole world of freedom, not only on the dancefloor but all around Pikes,” the post continues.

Popularised by Berghain, the no-phone policy has been rolled out at a number of underground nightclubs, including London's FOLD and fabric.

Upcoming parties that will experience the new no-phone policy include Utopia, the queer-friendly party by DJ and activist Jaguar; Sundays at Pikes, which will feature sets from Maribou State, Luke Una, Benji B and more; and a series of all-night parties from legendary house DJ David Morales.
