Paula Tape shares first single to forthcoming EP ‘Acid Latino’

The new track establishes the project's intention to explore the artist's South American heritage through an electronic lens

Paula Tape has shared the lead single to her forthcoming EP, ‘Acid Latino’, out November 20 via Future Classic.

Marking the end of a brief production hiatus for the Chilean DJ and producer, ‘Acid Latino (Sonido Real)’ combines '90s acid house with an unmistakable salsa rhythm — innovatively created using a TB-303 drum machine.

“I've always liked salsa piano progression,” says Tape. “I find it soulful and rich in groove, one day I was listening to 'Bilongo' by Fania All-Stars and I was in a trance because of how the piano moved and sounded.

"At that time I was working in the studio, and I dared to use a Latin piano progression - I was curious to try something similar but in a more electronic key..” she continues.

It is the first of many tracks on the EP that fuse the artist’s love for dance music with her desire to honour and platform the rich musical heritage of her home continent.

Speaking on the project, Tape shares: “Acid Latino is a state of mind, it’s a feeling of emotions that are coming through a long process of awareness. Much of the music was inspired whilst travelling the South American continent and sharing moments with my people around there.”
