New York’s Nowadays secures future after signing 10-year lease
The club celebrates its lease extension with a party featuring Nowadays founders Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter
Seminal New York nightclub Nowadays has secured its future in Bushwick after signing a 10-year lease on the venue.
The club announced the news on Instagram yesterday, December 4, explaining that things had been “up in the air” until around a month ago, when owners had to decide the fate of the club’s future.
“Around this time last year, we shared that we had ten months left on our lease and that, beyond that, the future of Nowadays was uncertain,” they explained.
“Things remained up in the air until about a month ago when, after a lot of back and forth, we worked out an agreement for a lease renewal that will enable us to continue doing our thing for at least the next 10 years.”

The venue – which sits at the border of Bushwick and Ridgewood and has been operating on the same site for almost ten years – will face a rent increase after signing the new lease, according to Resident Advisor.
Club co-founder Eamon Harkin confirmed to RA that the property’s rent will shoot up by 50%, but it’s a challenge they're ready to face: “We weren't ready to be done and give up on a place we feel is a special place in the city for this culture of ours,” he explained.
“Making a space like Nowadays work is challenging at the best of times, and the unpredictability of this scenario made it doubly difficult,” the club said. “Despite that, our team has shown incredible resolve and composure to keep things rocking and rolling through this trying period.”

To celebrate the extension of its lease, Nowadays will host a party tonight, December 5, starting at 8:PM. The event features an “all-staff line-up”, which they say represents “the breadth of talent and musical ideas on our team”.
The line-up includes both club founders Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter, as well as other staff members – many of whom will “go back-to-back for the first time”.
