​New book exploring Berlin club culture, Berghain Nights, is coming out in 2025

In a “personal account” of Berlin nightlife, Liam Cagney explores the underbelly of Berghain

A new book documenting the personal accounts of author Liam Cagney spotlighting Berlin’s nightlife scene is set for release in 2025.

Berghain Nights: A Journey Through Techno and Berlin Club Culture is due to hit shelves in 2025 via independent publisher Reaktion, Cagney announced earlier today.

Though few details have yet to be released, Cagney calls it a personal story on “techno in Berlin as the art of nowhere”, recounting nights spent at clubs across the city.

The book’s synopsis reads: From kinky parties in the labyrinthine KitKat Club to the gloom of Tresor’s basement, from the verdant garden of Buttons to the psychedelic lab of Cocktail d’Amore…

Berghain Nights not only captures the excitement of Berlin club culture; it asks how techno in a club context allows people to strip away layers of inherited hang-ups to access a realer self.”

Berghain Nights will also include interviews from prolific Berlin DJs and producers, and share details about the legendary clubs that make up Berlin’s effervescent nightlife scene.

Speaking on the book, author and Arts Council of Ireland Emerging Writer award-winner, Liam Cagney, explained: "I wrote Berghain Nights to make sense of my club experiences, and to show the cultural value of techno clubs like Berghain.

Reaktion right away got what I’m doing,” he said. “They’re a fantastic home for music books and I couldn’t be prouder to join their distinguished list.”
