MSTRKRFT (Live) in The Lab NYC
An intimate live set by the analogue driven duo
The Lab NYC is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly afterwork party where we stream the best American and international DJs from the intimate space connected to our Brooklyn office. This week Mixmag was excited to welcome MSTRKRFT for a special live set in The Lab NYC.
Hailing from Toronto, MSTRKRFT have pioneered modern electro with a raw and boisterous style. Their sonic output is unmistakable as they deliver a relentlessly hardcore motif that exists at the heart of their productions. The duo consisting of Jesse F. Keeler and Al-P have grown a massive following since emerging in 2005 and their gritty essence continues to stand out in today’s dance music landscape.
Following a brief hiatus, 2016 has seen the rebirth of MSTRKRFT as they released their latest album, ‘Operator’, which was their first since 2009’s highly popular ‘Fist Of God’. Still with a nucleus of analogue hardware, Al-P describes how this is still very much an important aspect of their sound. “A big part of the sound is the curation of equipment,” continues Al. “There’s no trickery—what you hear is what you get and we’re not manipulating anything afterwards.”
After the Lab NYC session on Friday, MSTRKRFT head to Webster Hall on September 10 to headline GOTHAM. Find tickets here.
