Moritz von Oswald Trio announce new album ‘Dissent’

The Moritz von Oswald Trio have announced their new album ‘Dissent’ coming August 6 on Modern Recordings, their first album in almost five years.

Von Oswald has teamed up with Detroit’s Laurel Halo and Heinrich Köbberling for the new iteration of the trio - with the album moving between dance music, jazz, noise, and techno.

The album was recorded during November and December 2020 in Berlin, forming from a number of edited down, long-form jams. The experimental sound world is explored across the album’s duration, with free drums being complimented by more dark, electronic instrumentation.

It follows 2015’s ‘Sounding Lines’ with a more explorative and experimental effort - still grounded within its jazz sensibilities.

Moritz von Oswald is known for his contributions to the electronic music tradition - and the Moritz von Oswald trio focuses on branching out into more improvisational music. Von Oswald was also instrumental to the initiation of the Berlin-Detroit connection through a number of early 90s collaborations - with artists such as Juan Atkins and Jeff Mills.

Laurel Halo has collaborated with Hatsune Miku, as well as performing at London’s Barbican, with her music spanning ambient music and experimental electronica. Her music is currently released through Hyperdub (The Wire's Album of the Year), Honest Jon’s, Vinyl Factory, !K7 – DJ Kicks, and Latency.
