Mixmag celebrates 40 years with BBC Radio 1 Dance series

The mix series runs every Friday night through September featuring talent from around the globe

Mixmag turns 40 this year, and to celebrate, we’re linking up with BBC Radio 1 Dance to bring you a five-part mix series throughout the month of September.

BBC Radio 1 Dance Presents Mixmag kicks off tomorrow, September 1, and runs every Friday night throughout the month on both Radio 1 and Radio 1 Dance until September 29.

First up, we’ve locked in an experimental bass mix from Ukraine’s human margareeta. Kyiv-hailing DJ, producer, and promoter human margareeta has been driving activism in Ukraine amidst Russia’s invasion.

“Happy Birthday Mixmag,” she says. “The mix you’re listening to was recorded during another Russian drone attack on Kyiv. Please remember that Ukraine needs your support in order to keep democracy in the world!”

In the weeks following, you’ll hear some stellar mixes by a range of female artists from every corner of the world - Seoul to Pretoria, Mexico City to New Delhi.

We’ve enlisted Argentina’s TAYHANA to take on the next mix of high-energy club-fillers on September 8, followed by a luscious 60-minute takeover from India’s Zequenx on September 15th.

The penultimate mix comes from South Korea-born duo Salamanda with some deep, leftfield sonics on September 22nd, before we hand over the reins to our final artist on September 29, South Africa’s queen of amapiano: DBN Gogo.

Tune in to BBC R1 or R1 Dance at 2AM on Friday nights (Saturday mornings), throughout the month of September to listen to Radio 1 Dance Presents Mixmag, or listen back throughout the week on R1 Dance or BBC Sounds. Check out the full schedule here.
