Missy Elliott calls for Shark Tale single to be released on streaming services
The cover of Rose Royce's 1976 single featured Chrstina Aguilera, and was released as part of the soundtrack for the 2004 Dreamworks animated film
Missy Elliott is campaigning to get her contribution to the soundtrack of 2004-released animated film Shark Tale released on streaming services.
It follows reported calls from fans to get the Christina Aguilera-featuring track, which is a cover of Rose Royce's 1976 R&B hit 'Car Wash', released on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
Tagging both Universal Music and Geffen Records, Missy Elliott wrote on Twitter: “The fans tagged me wanting to know why the song ‘Car Wash’ on #SharkTale soundtrack not on some streaming sites…”

She went on to ask: “Can you please help out because many of them have been asking as you can see and miss it?”. UMG and Geffen Records are yet to respond.
The track originally landed as part of the Dreamworks animated film’s soundtrack over two decades ago, and currently only appears in ripped versions on YouTube.
“I asked because the fans were tagging me about it,” Elliott said in a separate post. “I didn’t even know it wasn’t on the streaming platforms so I was asking for the fans.”

In response, another fan pleaded via Twitter: “While we're asking, can we PLEEEEASE get ‘Shake Your Pom Pom’ as well,” referring to Elliott’s 2008 single released as part of the Step Up 2: The Streets soundtrack – which currently does not appear on streaming platforms.
In 2023, Missy Elliott became the first female rap artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was inducted alongside Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush, George Michael, and more.
Last year, she made history again when she became the first hip hop artist to be broadcast into space. Her 1997 single 'The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)' travelled 254 million kilometres at light speed towards Venus – Elliott’s favourite planet, according to NASA.
