Melbourne to trial 24-hour public transport service
No more massive Uber fares home
Melbourne will trial a 24-hour public transport service on weekends in January 2016.
Starting New Year's Day, trains will run on all lines from the central Flinders St Station every hour after midnight, while trams will run on six core routes, including the 96 from Brunswick East to St Kilda, throughout the city every 30 minutes.
The trial comes as a result of a Victorian State Government pre-election promise, and follows in the footsteps of New York, Berlin and London, where a 24-hour tube service is getting enticingly close.
The progressive move is sure to help clubbers who live further out avoid the usual hefty fare at the end of the night, meaning more money to enjoy what the night has to offer. It's certainly a contrast to the current climate in Sydney, where the city's 'lockout laws' mean you can't get into a new club after 1.30am.
