Sydney's Imperial Hotel hit by new lockout

The venue, home to multiple club nights, had been thriving outside the city's lockout-affected area

Sydney's lockout-free clubbing options have taken a hit, with the Imperial Hotel in Erskineville, home to the Spice Cellar, Meanwhile and a range of LGBTI events, announcing new restrictions.

The venue will now enforce a 'no pass-outs' policy after 1am, with no new patrons allowed to enter after 3am. It is unclear whether the rules are self-imposed or handed down by the New South Wales State Government.

Sitting outside the lockout-affected 'CBD entertainment precinct', dance music at the Imperial has thrived since the introduction of the infamous lockout laws last year, with popular late-night rave den the Spice Cellar relocating to the venue in April.

However, it looks like authorities have noticed too many people having a good time at the venue. Last month the hotel was issued with a 72-hour short term closure notice from police after officers allegedly witnessed staff taking drugs while working.
