Max Chapman - 9/10

Dedicated to his late father Gordon, who died doing what he loved – racing motorbikes – Max Chapman's 'Catch Me If You Can' is an impressive debut.

Unafraid to take varying directions, it's dancefloor-driven, but with an experimental edge. 'Intro's pulsating bass eases the listener in, but generally, it's a dark and brooding affair. The eponymous title track, and later 'Halloween', build and build, conjuring an ominous atmosphere. Standout 'Move Your Body' is in the producer's signature raw house style, while the twists and turns of 'The Red Room' trip out to 4am warehouse territory.
