Massive Attack guitarist Angelo Bruschini has died
Tributes are pouring in to the musician who had been battling with lung cancer
Massive Attack have confirmed the death of bandmate Angelo Bruschini.
Sharing an image of the band’s guitarist, Massive Attack say they are “devastated” in a statement.
The statement continues: “How lucky we all were to share such a life together. Such a brilliant, eccentric talent. Impossible to quantify your contribution. RIP Angelo.”
The Bristol-born artist was also a member of the bands The Numbers, Rimshots and The Blue Aeroplanes. He produced Strangelove's self-titled album in 1997, as well as playing guitar on Jane Taylor's 2005 track ‘Blowing This Candle Out’.
Paying tribute The Blue Aeroplanes wrote: "We are devastated to announce the passing of our brother Angelo Bruschini. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Rest In Peace Ange x"
Tributes have also been pouring in for the late guitarist from fans on social media.
In July this year, Sky News reported, that Bruschini updated fans about his cancer diagnosis.
He wrote: “Twice now I have been told ‘Good luck’ by specialists at the hospital over lung cancer, I think I’m fucked!
He continued: “Had a great life, seen the world many many times, met lots of wonderful people, but the door is closing, think I will write a book.”
Bruschini's wife shared: "I am very sad to announce that my beautiful husband, Angelo Bruschini, died on 23rd October 2023 at 12.15am. It was from a rare and agressive cancer - pleomorphic carcinoma."
The trip hop band was formed in the 1980s with Bruschini joining them in 1990. Massive Attack made two Number One albums in the UK with ‘Mezzanine’ and ‘100th Window’.
Massive Attack won a Brit Award in 1996 for Best British Dance Act, as well as a British music prize at the Ivor Novello Awards in 2009.
