Electro and deep house vie for festival anthem status

With Miami Music Week now in the rearview, the festival season begins in earnest – which means the Beatport ranks are brimming with would-be anthems.

Don Diablo (pictured) & CID's joint remix of Alex Adair's 'Make Me Better' hit just the right summer-ready note, ensuring its lead in the Top 10 for the month. While the overall top-sellers list includes blockbuster names like Tiësto, Hardwell and Martin Solveig, they're in the company of lesser-known hit-makers like Hot Creations recruit Denney and teenaged Spinnin' Deep signee Curbi, who's a favorite of Oliver Heldens.

Big, brash electro-house is unlikely to loosen its grip on main stages this summer, but we expect to hear a lot of groove, too. EDX's Dubai Skyline remix of 'Uruguay', at No 6 in the overall chart, tops our deep house 10, edging out a host of remixes from the likes of Andhim, Justin Martin and Dosem (remixing Elderwood, Escape and UMEK & Mike Vale respectively). But it's the enigmatic Claptone's feel-good take on Gregory Porter's 'Liquid Spirit' that's likely to linger longest on summertime playlists – especially with the German DJ's packed festival shedule taking in everywhere from Mysteryland NY to Melt! in Leipzig.
