Love Parade deaths: charges against seven defendants dropped
Three people are being prosecuted in relation to the deaths at Love Parade festival in 2010
Prosecutors in Germany are now trying three people for crimes related to Berlin’s Love Parade festival in 2010, which ended disastrously with 21 deaths and more than 500 injuries suffered due to overcrowding.
The case has narrowed from 10 defendants to three, with the case against seven defendants dropped upon the recommendation of the Duisburg state court judges citing a lack of evidence to support a case proving individual guilt of involuntary manslaughter and bodily harm.
Allegations levelled at the former defendants had been for failing planning failures and failure to monitor security properly, which the court stated as more of a collective responsibility.
The three organisers who remain on trail turned down the option to end the trial by paying €10,000, as German law allows for lesser offences.
