London queer venue Algha's Plantroom launches urgent fundraising campaign

A fundraiser event will take place at the arts space in Hackney Wick on May 23

London arts space Algha's Plantroom has announced a fundraising campaign, aiming to generate £20,000 to secure its future.

The independent, femme-owned and queer-led events venue says it is facing its “most challenging period since opening two years ago, with rising rent, increased business rates, and a wave of event cancellations”, with the result being its ability to continue operation will cease within 60 days if it doesn’t receive “significant community support.”

fundraising event will take place at the venue, which is located in Fish Island, Hackney Wick, this Saturday, May 23, across 2:PM to 11:PM.

The line-up features a live set from Nina Pixina ft. Bones Tan Jones, with DJ sets from LO-LOW b2b THEMPRESS, Melati b2b TSUNIMAN, and TEDESCO b2b Twang.

There’ll also be dance and movement performances from KEILAN and Alison Facun & Ella Mitchelle, with an installation from set and spatial design artist Julia Dias.

"Every contribution goes directly into keeping this space open and functional - not just for us, but for the artists, communities, and nights that call it home,” says the venue team. “We’re calling on all those who have attended events, exhibited work, or found community at the space to donate, share, and help carry the venue forward.”

Events and artists who have featured at Algha's Plantroom include playbody (pictured), FKA twigs, Coucou Chloe, AIDх10 and ceno2.
