LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Russom has come out as transgender
The synth player and vocalist reveals her true self
LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Rossum has just publicly come out as a transgender female in a new exclusive interview with Grindr.
Rossum reveals she has identified as a woman for most of her life. She gives details of her recent coming out to her fellow band members, who have been "really supportive", with her announcement bringing the group closer together.
The artist's decision to come out was brought on by LCD's upcoming reunion tour, which had Rossum envisioning herself in the public eye where she "could not imagine" standing untruthful to her identity.
She elaborates: "My body rejected it in the same way that it now utterly rejects going into a men's bathroom, or when somebody calls me 'sir'...I am someone who has spoken out on both women’s rights and trans rights for a long time, but when I started to transition myself, that was one of the most shocking things. I’m carrying so many of these things around with me. That’s been challenging to work through— having those preconditioned societal ideas of what transgender women can do".
Rossum hopes that her personal journey and performances will inspire other transgender people to come out and lead powerful, fulfilling lives.
