The investigation of Stephen Paddock is ongoing

Reports have surfaced that Stephen Paddock, the shooter who killed 58 people and injured over 500 more at Route 91 Harvest country festival in Las Vegas last weekend, had booked hotel rooms overlooking Chicago's Lollapalooza Festival in August.

Paddock allegedly booked two rooms at the Blackstone Hotel, the first on August 1 and the second on August 3, with both to check out on the final date of Lollapalooza on August 6.

The Chicago hotel accounts that the shooter never checked in, but "specifically requested" that both his rooms had views of Grant Park, overlooking the festival's main stage.

USA Today reports that a Chicago police official said: "We are aware of the media reports and have been in communication with our federal partners.

"As you saw earlier this week the city conducts extensive public safety planning and training around major events, in close coordination with our law enforcement partners, to ensure public safety."

Lollapalooza's acts included Muse, Lorde, Chance The Rapper, The xx, Justice and Big Sean with over 400,000 people attending.

Earlier this week, news broke that Stephen Paddock had also rented a unit in Las Vegas' Ogden condo complex during the time of September's Life Is Beautiful festival.

The investigation into the shootings is ongoing.
