Konstantin and Giegling dropped from London festival Sunfall
Konstantin has caused controversy by saying that men are better DJs than women
Konstantin and the Giegling crew have been dropped from the line-up of London festival Sunfall.
In a statement posted to Facebook, event organisers said: "Out of respect for the incredible female talent we have with us at Sunfall this year, it's with regret we announce the Giegling night session will not be going ahead. We are shocked to hear of Konstantin's recent comments, and disagree with them completely."
This is despite a statement that Konstantin sent to Mixmag and other dance music media outlets earlier today that read: "What was written does not reflect my opinion nor is it at all anything other people from the label would ever say or feel."
Konstantin has been mired by controversy after an excerpt of a print magazine feature alleging that he said women are "mostly worse DJs than men" appeared online yesterday. In a profile of the Giegling label and party collective for Groove, journalist Laura Aha wrote: "[Konstantin] considers it unfair that female DJs are supported so much at the moment, although they, in his opinion, are mostly worse DJs than men. Following this logic, he says, it's therefore much easier for women to be successful as DJs, as the few women who are interested in DJing are disproportionately promoted."
Although in the same piece other Giegling members say "sexism is fundamentally not an issue in the group", peers such as The Black Madonna have said they've experienced sexist behaviour from Konstantin.
