KI/KI launches new label, Slash

To kick it off, the first release involves two of her "great heroes"

KI/KI has launched her first label, Slash, with its debut release forming as a two-track EP from Alpha Tracks set for release on July 13.

The label's ethos and inspiration is channelled by KI/KI's passion for the sounds of the nineties, and she will be searching for 'lost and forgotten' producers to return and remix new releases from a mixture of artists.

The first to get involved is Alpha Tracks - aka Felix Benedikt - who emerged into the music sphere in 2016, having spent years previous honing his skills and working in record stores. With many of his productions produced live on analogue machines, he has since released tracks on labels such as BPitch and Blue Hour.

On remix duties for the two tracks provided by Benedikt are label-owner KI/KI and Format, aka Orlando Voorn, providing doses of bouncing bass, acid cuts and uptempo beats.

Announcing the label and debut release on Instagram this week, KI/KI conveyed her excitement for the project's future, teasing that she "can't wait to tell more" about "everything that's coming up". She preceeded this by explaining how the project itself had been two years in the works, and that it "almost feels surreal this day has finally come".

"Slash is a mixture of projects including some of my key figures from the 90s who’ve ignited my love for music and drove me to start DJing and producing in the first place," she tells Mixmag. "This together with my favourite contemporary producers of today is making the label very personal for me. It will also show what happens when different generations of artists start working together."

Hailing from the underground trance, acid and techno sounds of Amsterdam, KI/KI has since showcased her craft through a plethora of all-nighters, her own curated 'invites' series, and collaborating with a range of creatives, including Amsterdam's 'The New Originals' fashion collective for her 'not for sleeping' project.
