Keep Sydney Open responds to lockout laws review
The group is heading up another anti-lockout rally on October 9
Sydney's main anti-lockout group Keep Sydney Open has responded to the findings of the laws' official review released yesterday and is holding another rally on October 9.
Posting to Facebook, the group wrote: "Looks like we’re hitting the streets again!
"We applaud yesterday’s Callinan review for recommending the easing of Sydney’s lockout, cease of service and takeaway liquor sales. The review’s acknowledgement that live music is worth special considering is also to be commended. This is a tacit acknowledgement that either the laws went too far, we’ve outgrown their need, or both.
"The suggestion, however, that a paltry thirty minutes will restore confidence in Sydney as a dynamic city is an insult to all the businesses and Sydneysiders who have weathered the restrictive regime of lockouts for far too long."
Yesterday, the report by former High Court Judge Ian Callinan on the laws suggested the 1.30am lockouts, and 3am call for last drinks, could be moved back by half an hour at live entertainment venues in central Sydney.
The New South Wales State Government will respond to the report by the end of the year, but might not follow any of its recommendations.
In February, about 15,000 people hit the streets for Keep Sydney Open's last rally.
