Kate Bush has reportedly earned $2.3 million since Stranger Things featured ‘Running Up That Hill’

Since May, the 44-year-old song has broken three Guinness World Records and reached Number One

Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ has been given a new lease of life by the Netflix hit series, Stranger Things with recent reports indicating that the use of her song in the show she has since earned her $2.3 million.

The 1985 track was used in an emotional scene where the character Max used music as a method to escape the Upside Down and the main villain of the season, Vecna.

Equivalent to £1.9 million, this comes as no surprise as the 1985 track has had a huge resurgence from its spotlight in Stranger Things, breaking three Guinness World Records and reaching Number One in the charts of many international countries.

According to CBS and music data website Luminate they estimated that Bush has generated a boost in royalties with Music Business Worldwide, saying that she has likely kept the bulk of the track’s income as she is the copyright owner of her recordings.

"I just can't believe it — No. 1 for the third week," Bush wrote in a rare blog post. "In fact it's all starting to feel a bit surreal."

On the weekend, the second part of Stranger Things 4 was released with the penultimate episode at 85 minutes long, while the finale of the season is a whopping two-and-a-half hours long.

Previous seasons' soundtracks saw the likes of 'Africa' by Toto, 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' by The Clash, and 'Fields of Coral' by Vangelis.
